Privacy Policy
Deedwell is a brand of Cedarstone Ventures LLC. This policy explains what this website collects, and what happens to your email address if you choose to give it to us. Cedarstone Ventures LLC is responsible for that information (in privacy-law terms, the controller). You can reach us at info@cedarstonellc.com.
What we collect on this website
Nothing you have to give us. There is no account and no login. The free checklists are direct downloads; there is no email gate in front of them, and there never has been. Two pages, /host/ and /updates/, carry an optional email sign-up form. Nothing is collected from those forms unless you type in your address and submit it.
Since 2026-07-28 we run one analytics tool: Cloudflare Web Analytics. We added it because until then we had no way of telling whether anything we make reaches anybody. Per Cloudflare’s own documentation it uses no cookies and no localStorage, and it does not fingerprint you by IP address, User Agent or anything else; rather than identify visitors it counts page views arriving from a distinct navigation or referral. What reaches us is aggregate — page views, referrers, countries, browsers — and none of it is you. There is still no Google Analytics, no tag manager, no advertising pixel, no session recording, and no cookie set by us.
Two outside services load on every page of this site, and you should know about both. Cloudflare, for the analytics above, and Google Fonts, which serves the two typefaces. Fetching a file from either necessarily shows that company your IP address, as any request to any server does. We use neither to identify you, and from Google we receive nothing at all. Our host, GitHub Pages, keeps its own server logs, which we do not have access to and cannot query. The sign-up forms load nothing from MailerLite in advance; your browser only contacts MailerLite when you submit a form.
If you sign up for email
What we collect. Your email address, and which form you used (the host form on /host/ or the owner form on /updates/). MailerLite also records when you signed up and when you confirmed, and the IP address used, as proof of your consent.
What it is for. Only what that page promised. On /host/: new host resources and Deedwell book news. On /updates/: next tax-year edition news, selected law-change notes relevant to your book, and replies when you write to us. We aim for a few emails a year.
Confirmation first. Both forms use double opt-in. MailerLite stores new submissions as unconfirmed; marketing emails begin only after you confirm. Already-subscribed addresses may not receive another confirmation.
Stopping and deletion. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link. Use the unsubscribe link to stop emails; to have your address deleted, write to info@cedarstonellc.com (we may keep a minimal record to honour the opt-out).
Who holds it. MailerLite, Inc., a Delaware corporation, stores the list for us as our processor. We do not turn on email open or click tracking.
Legal basis. For these marketing emails, our legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw any time with the unsubscribe link or by writing to us.
If you email us
If you write to info@cedarstonellc.com, we hold what you sent in our mailbox and use it to reply. Owners can also register a copy by writing to us instead of using the form; we then use that address for the same things the /updates/ page lists, and we stop whenever you ask. We do not sell, rent or trade it.
What we do not do
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We do not track you across sites. We do not build a profile of you. We do not send anything you did not ask for.
A note on this page
Until 2026-07-26 this policy described collecting email addresses for a gated checklist and running "privacy-respecting analytics". Neither was true then: the checklist has never been gated, and at that point no analytics had been installed. A privacy policy that overstates what a site collects is still wrong, so it was rewritten to say what actually happened.
Then on 2026-07-28 it was wrong in the other direction, and worse. Analytics was installed that morning, and for a few hours this page still said “we run no analytics” and invited you to “check: this site loads no third-party scripts at all” — while the page you were reading loaded one. Anyone who took us up on that check would have caught us. It was an oversight rather than a choice: the tag went onto six pages and the sentence describing it did not. Corrected the same day, and while correcting it we also stopped glossing over Google Fonts, which has been loading here all along.
Later the same day it was corrected again, in the opposite direction. It had said a registered owner's address was kept for one purpose, while the registration page promised three uses of it — and that page also said every email would carry an unsubscribe link, which was not possible at the time, because there was then no sending platform to put one in. Understating what we do with an address is the same fault as overstating it, so both pages were brought into line.
On 2026-10-22 we removed the optional rate-change email signup. Change notes remain available openly at deedwell.co/updates, with no email required.
On 2026-10-30 we added two optional email sign-up forms, on /host/ and /updates/, run by MailerLite. The free checklists stayed direct downloads. Earlier versions of this page said the site had no form of any kind, that owner addresses were not run through a marketing platform, and that owner notes carried no unsubscribe link. All three stopped being true that day, so those sentences were removed rather than left standing.
